This book is definitely worth all of the hype. I loved it, from the action and the small talk between the characters. The complete world building and the tripical slowness of the first books in fantasy book series was done so well it didn't seem like info-dumping.
Cleo was most definitely my favourite character out of the four we went back and forth with for the point of view. She went through a huge character development, from being scared to stand up for herself and others to being queen and sacrificing everything for them. She is going to be one of the characters I am going to be rooting for during the rest of the series.
Magnus is my least favourite. Agh just because Lucia doesn't feel the same way as you, doesn't mean you can be Prince Asshole. Get it, since he is a prince and his dad is a asshole as well, so he gets the title Prince Asshole. If you couldn't tell, I did mot enjoy his character.
Jonas was the character that I gave permission from the beginning of the book to be an asshole and be vengeful. I mean his brother was killed and nobody really did anything, I have two siblings myself and if something like that happened, I would personally act similar to how he act. I can't wait to see what he does next.
Lucia, was a pretty good character. I just can't stand how she helps them when it is so obvious that she is just being use because of her powers. I honestly think that her adoptive father doesn't really care about her, and her adoptive mother just wanted another child and we all know how Magnus feels and he got shot down.
5 out of 5 stars
